The photo above is from the 2Kg salmon fish I bought on Thursday for 4,64A$. I had lots of trouble cutting it into pieces to nicely store them in the freezer. I think I wasted good part of the fish trying to get rid of the spine.. And, I didn't know that fishes had that much blood. What a massacre!

Yesterday I went to the Sydney Opera House with James. I had bought the tickets for both of us one month ago so I was looking forward to yesterday night.
We saw the show "Sabores" by the Spanish flamenco dancer Sara Baras &Co. We thought it was really good and enjoyed it very much. I enjoyed shouting !OLEEE! several times while applauding...

Watch the video here http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=oDlEVNxNndo

After that, we went out for a drink in a very classy lounge, on the 4th floor of the Sydney Customs House, where I had been before (they have newspapers of dozens of countries, including the Spanish El Pais) but had never discovered the lounge. I had a Mojitoooo and James had a Ménage-ŕ-Trois... I don't know what he was thinking!

I have successfully completed all the CPL Navs and CPL Pre-License flight, this means that as soon as I pass all the theory exams (now 4/7) I will be ready for the commercial pilot license flight test. There are seven theory exams for CPL, these are my marks until this date:

Human Performance: PASS 80%
Meteorology: PASS 70%
Aircraft General Knowledge: PASS 80%
Navigation: PASS 90%
Aerodynamics: -FAIL 68%
Performance: -FAIL 50%
Flight Rules and Air Law: -FAIL 78%

I have also completed around 55 hours as pilot in command in crosscountry flights. Next weekend I'm going to fly with my mates Alasdair, Gurmesh and Mike to Brisbane, a famous coastal city 1,000Km north of Sydney. The region is also known as Surfers Paradise! We're flying two Cessna152 and it's going to take around 6 hours to get there, including one stop for refuelling. We're leaving for Brisbane/Archerfield on Saturday, flying to Gold Coast on Sunday, and flying back on Monday.

After two interviews, some tests and an orientation course, I started my new part-time job on the 7th of October. It's at the Georges Manor of Advantaged Care, an aged care residence just 1 minute from where I live. I work daily (Mo-Fri) from 4pm to 8pm and I am responsible for serving dinner to the residents.

This is my new camera.
Olympus µ 1030 SW
Olympus Shockproof+Waterproof 10 Megapixel
28mm wide angle lens
1700 ISO
10m waterproof
2m shockproof
100 Kg crushproof
I have been thinking of upgrading my µ750SW for some time, and what made me decide to get this particular one is the wide angle lens, which is going to allow me to capture a more extense surrounding of the object that I'm photographing, and allow for more width when photographing landscape. I also got 2x2GB XD Cards with integrated panorama functions.

Yesterday we went to the Sydney Olympic Swimming Pool. As I work daily from 4 to 8pm, I had to travel to Sydney early in the morning to be back for work after lunch. Entry is 4.70A$ which I found to be a very good price for a pool in such a unique location, next to Harbour Bridge, with views over the bay area, skyline and the Opera House. The exterior pool is 50m long, which is twice as long as I'm used to.

This week my flying school Basair has moved to a new location, only a few hundred meters from the old one. The new building is, after my first impression, much nicer than the former one. The school now has a larger surface and even owns a small hangar. The walking distance from the building to the aircraft parking grass surface is very short, about 1 minute. Inside, the walls are decorated with huge posters of airplanes and cockpits, which strongly enhances the flying spirit of the people that walk around.

I've been wearing invisalign® clear, removable teeth aligners for 6 months now to straighten my teeth, and I'm close to the end of the treatement. In a few weeks Dr Duncan might place the wire behind my teeth that I'm going to wear for most of the rest of my life to keep them where they are.
Although it is more expensive than the traditional brackets, I recommend this as it is faster, painless, and most important of all, totally invisible, which for some might save the embarassment of looking like teenager.

And last but not least, I'm going to write that I just sent out 10 Christmas greeting cards, so If you're lucky, one of them is now travelling with your mailbox as the final destination. If that's the case, congrats, you're somewhere in the TOP10 meaningful people to me.

XMASCARDS!

link WWW.007.COM James Bond #22

My personal rating: 3*
Review: Worth watching if you are a fan, but not to be compared with the traditional Bond movies.
Cars: first 5 minutes, prosecution with non-tweaked Aston Martin. Gadgets: none! only the Sony Ericsson cellphone capable of taking hi-res photos and managing information.
Women: Yes, very hot, but breaking the tradition he doesn't have sex with her. Bad guy: Swiss businessman who eats apples, he wouldn't scare a small girl. Story: Defficient.

The photos above are of last Sunday's trip with my friends James and Fede. We flew in a Tobago TB10. We met at my flying school at 8.30am, after submitting the flightplan to ATC, loading the a/c with backpacks and survival equippment and performing a careful preflight inspection, the takeoff at 9.58 was followed by a CTA departure (through controlled airspace). Tracking to Canberra over Bindook VOR and Goulburn, we cruised at 8500ft, VFR-on-top (above broken clouds).

We landed in Canberra's smaller Runway 30 at 11.20, just for a quick 'pipi-stop' and refuelling. It took us more than 20 minutes to get an airways and takeoff clearance due to traffic load and big jets operating. I had requested a Canberra city flight alpha1 before departure to Moruya, which allowed us to overfly the city with its beautiful lake and the Australian parliament house (1st photo).

The landing in Moruya was accompanied by a light crosswind (estimated 15 knots, which is nothing for a Tobago) and a smooth touchdown. Two pilots and an airport assistant were loading suitcases in a REX (Regional Express Australia) Saab 340 to take off 5 minutes later. We walked down to the beach, where we picnicked sandwiches.

On the flight back, we transited the GA (General Aviation) lane of the Nowra military airspace, which was not active as it was Sunday, so I could just cross it after broadcasting intentions. We overflew Jervis Bay and Huskisson, which was really nice because it was where we spent the easter holidays earlier this year. The turbulence was extremely bad, so we landed in Wollongong for a pause. Every chance is worth it to stare at the Super constellation (last photo) for a while! We almost got stuck there because I couldn't start the plane as there was no power when we boarded the plane again, but after some checks, it was just a circuitbraker.

We had dinner at Bass Hill Plaza, a huge steak with salad and chips. It was a wonderful day!

Yesterday we had the Christmas party with the people from Georges Manor, at the Regents Park golf club.

There were about 40 people and we had turkey&ham. On the top photo, you can see the general manager Sandy, who came in disguised as an oldie and saying that she had escaped from the residence (the one we work in, obviously), this was very funny. She gave a beautiful speech, thanking us for our collaboration as this is a brand new company which started earlier this year, so we are all playing an important role in being the first persons to do what we do. Then there were the employee of the month, and so on. Drinks were free, so that was nice, on the following two photos I'm with the cook and the maintainance guy, then with some of the nurses.

The following photos are from my workplace during dinner time, which is my shift (4-8), and is now nicely decorated for christmas.

On Saturday I finally went to the Cruise Bar at Sydney Circular Quay. It's on the dock for the big cruises opposite of the Opera House. I met at 8pm with James and Fede and we had some wonderful cocktails. I had an African Rumble and a Sunsplash.

Somehow we just went on the right day. First as we were sitting there on the terrace, suddenly everyone turned to one direction, and we saw a massive full moon raising from the horizon. It took about 1 minute from seing the tip until you could see the whole circle. It was amazing. Then shortly after, a big cruise ship appeared from under the harbour bridge and disappeared behind the opera house. And then half an hour later there were fireworks at the other shore!!!

On Sunday I went to Coogee beach with James. First we visited a work kollege of his, then we went down to the beach for a short swim (the water was effin freezing), and had fish&chips at a Mikki's stand.
